Have you heard of 100th day baby photoshoot? The art of baby photography goes beyond getting shots of a child growing up. Instead, it captures the innocence of childhood and the excitement of parenthood as the baby gets bigger.
Of all the various subsets of baby photography like newborn and first-year pictures, 100th day shoots stand out for its cultural significance.
Significance of the Baby’s 100th Day Celebration
The baby’s 100th day is a very crucial one. The 99 days leading up to the baby’s 100th day is the most vulnerable period for the mother and baby – where mom is bonding with her baby and still recovering from delivering her child.
In many cultures, the baby’s 100th day is celebrated for good luck and health. Some throw feasts while others celebrate with a good old’ fashioned 100th day party.
Commemorating your Baby’s 100th day? Let’s mark this critical milestone with a photoshoot! In many ways, a 100th day baby photoshoot might be better than a newborn session. Why is that so? Read on!
Babies are usually bigger and less fragile once they pass the 100-day mark. So, bringing them out is easier and less worrying. In fact, studies has shown Getting out, specially getting outside in nature, is good for parents and babies!
Around this time, most mamas had already established a rather fixed feeding and napping routine. Thus, we could work around the baby’s schedule for a photoshoot. Not to mention baby’s also a lot more alert, more awake, chubbier and cheerful, like this little guy below:

My Tips for 100th Day Photoshoots
Familiarity is a Baby’s Safe Haven
For most babies, the 100th day photoshoot will probably be their first time in a photo studio and in front of a camera. And the last thing you’d want is for the baby to feel anxious in an unfamiliar environment. Bring along baby’s favourite beanie, or blanket, or pacifier. Don’t forget to pack extra milk!
You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile
Most babies probably aren’t used to having a camera lens in front of them.
For group shots with the baby’s elder siblings, I try to make them laugh to capture the jubilance and bliss of childhood. Playing peekaboo and pulling funny faces behind the camera always makes them smile!
Apart from “posed” photographs, I strive to capture more journalist-stye photos during each session as well! Singing songs, rubbing baby’s feet or even simple maintaining eye-contacts make really lovely strong images.
Solo shots of the baby, as you might have guessed, are a bit more challenging than group photos as the baby is alone. Aside from making funny faces and playing with them, it’s always helpful for the baby to be around a familiar item like a blanket or plush toy.
