Makeup for Photoshoot FAQ - Oh Dear Studio Photography

Hair & Makeup is something that is largely up to individual preference. There is no fixed rule for it and the expectation for it varies largely on yourself. Should you be hiring a professional professional makeup artist? Or is doing your own makeup sufficient? I had compiled a list of makeup for photoshoot FAQ and of course works from the makeup artist I work with.

Do you provide any makeup services?

Professional Makeup is available at $180/pax, inclusive of 1x Hair styling & 1x Makeup. My artist will travel over to your place prior to your shoot for your makeup session.

Do men need makeup?

Makeup are more for ladies, the gentlemen doesn’t really need makeup. Men should be groomed with hair styled neatly. But should you prefer, men makeup are available at $180/pax.

Why can’t the make-up be in your studio?

Studio space is exclusively for photoshoots only. I would have to reserve the entire space for you should you prefer to have Hair & Makeup done in studio. Studio space rental would be at $150/hr.

Can I do my own makeup?

Yes of course! Our style is about natural and candid, so of course you can do your own hair & makeup.

What is the style of your Makeup Artist?

I work with my artist for over 10years, there are no definite “style” for makeup because it’s a craft that largely depends on each client’s preference. We do keep the makeup style natural, it’s more to define and add colouring to you!

Can I speak with Makeup Artist before the makeup?

The studio would be coordinating and arranging your makeup for you so do feel free to send us any reference pictures you have!

I do not need makeup, only Hair Styling. Is that possible?

Yes, it would be $150 for a hair styling house-call. My artist will travel over to your place prior your shoot.

I am doing my own makeup. Any tips for me?

Be a little bit more heavy-hand then your usual daily makeup. Flash photography tend to wash out at least 40% of the colour. Remember to put on blusher and lipstick. Rosy look works very well for family photoshoots.
For photoshoots with children, avoid thick lipsticks or lipgloss. Opt for a light lip tint instead. These won’t stain clothings or leave lipstick marks when you kiss and cuddle your little ones!

Different photoshoots requires different makeup style. A formal corporate makeup for photoshoot would be quite different from a glamour fashion-inspired photoshoot. Have a look at some of the different looks and makeup for various photoshoots.
