When’s the best time for a family portrait? Well, if you ask me, I’d say that it’s always a good time for a family photoshoot! Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a special occasion to have a family photoshoot. Family portraits are great for capturing you and your loved ones in this current season of life. But if there’s a special occasion, what better way to commemorate than a photoshoot? Perhaps a loved one has recently graduated, and your family wants to celebrate that with a graduation photoshoot..
Whatever it is, having a family photoshoot is an excellent way to create new memories, and you get another set of beautiful family photos to hang around the house!
Here are five quick tips that will come in handy when you go for your family photoshoot:
1. Brief Your Photographer
Have a think about the type of photoshoot that you intend to have. Do you have any preferences on the kind of photos to be taken or mementoes that you’d like to feature in the family photoshoot? For example, this lovely family of five decided to have a graduation photoshoot, followed by a Peranakan-themed photoshoot and casual photoshoot at our private rooftop, all in one 1.5h session:
2. Ensure That Everyone Is Well-Rested Before the Photoshoot
This tip is not just for families with young children but applies to everyone else as well! Getting sufficient rest the night before is essential to keep energy levels high throughout the photoshoot. Besides, having your eyebags captured on camera will probably be the last thing you want to happen. So, resist the temptation of watching another episode of your favourite drama series and leave that for after the photoshoot!
3. Plan Ahead & Dress It Up
Wear something that makes you feel confident, and make sure that everyone else in the family is dressed up too. After all, you don’t want to look underdressed in a photo that will probably be hung around your house.
Make sure to coordinate the colours of your outfits and plan them at least in advance. Deciding on a colour palette will help immensely as well!
If you intend to wear your graduation gown or have any special outfits planned, remember to steam them and lay them out the night before so that you don’t forget to bring them along to the photoshoot.
4. Be Spontaneous and Have Fun
Finally, the most important thing is to have fun during your photoshoot! Don’t be too worried about wanting the photos to turn out “perfect”.
Most of the time, candid and spontaneous shots can capture genuine moments and sincere interactions shared by you and your loved ones.
Enjoy your time on camera with your family. Let our experienced photographer work her magic!
