Horse Photography in Singapore is a lesser known “secret” to a lot of people. Many of us, brought up in the city, are less in touch with the great natural outdoors. Did you know you can hire a horse and get some really stylish and timeless photographs?
Be it for your own keep sake or for a Personal Branding Photoshoot, a styled photo-session with a Horse or Pony craft really unique and stunning images that are classy and timeless.
Jin Wu, Founder of Richman Luxury Singapore did just that! This luxury branding that specialises in watches and watch winder were after a more stylised conceptual photoshoot. They needed images that reflects their logo as well as timeless style.
After some brainstorming and conceptualising, we decided on a photoshoot at the beautiful meadows and stables with a real live horse.
A Horse photoshoot with Oh Dear Studio will typically start with us meeting at the appointment location, a short brief by both your photographer and handler and we’re off! Outfits will really depends on the style and look you prefer, be it a sharp suit or a medieval-style dress, it’s entirely up to you. Just choose something you are really comfortable with. Covered shoes are strongly advised!
Posing with a horse – some pro-tips for you to note
#1 Look him in the eyes and talk gently to your horse
He is your posing-model-buddy of the day, so build up some rapport by going up and talk to him! A simple hello is good. He might reward you with a nod! Refrain from speaking loudly or making any sudden big actions as these might startle the horse. Flash photography are strictly prohibited as well.
#2 Horses are huge animals!
They might not look like it from pictures but they ARE large. Horses are gentle and the ones that are selected for photoshoots are usually older, mild and mature horses that are less frisky. But for photos wise, you do need to get rather up-close and personal with them (think: forehead to forehead or with your arms wrapped around horse’s neck). So do be prepared mentally!
#3 I would be guiding you along
I would be guiding and directing you along so have no worries. A horse-handler will be assigned to us as well, she will mostly be helping to turn the horse around or with holding the leash. Some of my go-to poses will include crossed arms, leaning against the horse/fence, arms around the horse or standing tall and square. Anything that is simple, comfortable, and natural.
#4 Wear comfortable covered shoes and never stand behind a horse
The meadow ground can get pretty uneven sometimes and it’s also dangerous to wear uncovered shoes while standing near a horse. So choose a covered shoes, comfort is the key! Sneakers, dress shoes or boots would be my top choice.

She creates magic. She has captured the most special moments of my personal shots at the horse stable. I would never hesitate to recommend her to anyone who wants a true professional to create a customized photography experience. Easily the best experience with a photographer @ Oh Dear Studio to date!
