Is my house suitable for a home photoshoot?
We want to photograph you in your “natural habitat”, the space you call home. So yes, no matter the “size” or “type”, it is definitely suitable for a home photoshoot. Having said that, do tidy up before your photoshoot. Clutter should be kept a minimum, give your abode a hoover and a wipe down and it will be the perfect space for a meaningful photoshoot.
Any Tips for having a photoshoot at home?
- Dress in comfortable lounge-wear. Light / pastel or earthy tones work beautifully. Flowy chiffon robes or homely linen fabrics are great.
- Light makeup are encourage. Nothing dramatic
- Style your hair as you normally do, the aim is to look (albeit slightly more glamorous) as how you usually look
- Switch off all TVs and gadgets and keep distractions to a minimum (specially if you have little ones!)
- Clear away any clutter you might have
Why do a professional home photoshoot?
Home is where you truly spend your best memories in, and a shoot at home can capture many precious milestones. There are many reasons for having a shoot at home. Just had a new baby, mother is still in confinement. Or perhaps, you’re moving out of your place and wish to have some photographs for memories. Or some families might find it difficult to travel with elderly?
The reasons and possibilities are personal but we promise to make your photoshoot a memorable and fun experience for you.
Why hire a professional photographer when I can just selfie?
It’s not always just about the pictures. The Photoshoot itself is an experience, a time to bond with your family members if you will. The fun and laughter are often remembered fondly long after the shoot. No matter how great your phone or how good you are at taking selfies, they just can’t match the full-on experience a professional will provide.
The professional photographers know tricks, it is our bread and butter. We advise you on outfits, pay attention to the little details like lighting and angles, and ensure everyone is smiling and having a great time!
What’s the difference between a studio and a home photoshoot?
A studio photoshoot takes place in a curated, picture perfect space where studio lighting and a variety of backdrop choices are used to photograph your family. We have complete control over both of these factors and will be able to achieve a consistent result in every shoot. While beautiful, these spaces and set-up often may have little meaning behind them.
A home photoshoot, on the other hand, has more of a storytelling element to it. We will move around to different rooms of your house, different parts of the space, maybe even the garden or pool. We will be using mostly pure natural light, so pictures are natural and candid, perfect for memories keepsake. Little details that you might forget after years are captured in pictures, adding an authentic feel to it.
Conclusion – Capturing what matters
Some kids are shy and need time to warm up to strangers in a studio, so the familiarity of their home environment may suit them better.
For others, a studio shoot is much more appealing because the visually-appealing space is specially curated for photoshoots. Plus they’re worried that their children will ‘act up’ or not cooperate if they are at home – the formal environment of the studio may suit them much better.
Whichever option you choose, it is important to engage a professional photographer who’s great at working with families and be able to bring out the best in your children (and family!)
