The not-so-new Jurong Lake Garden is extremely ig-worthy and beautiful. It’s perfect for professional Family photoshoot as well as leisure outings. Think Green fields with crisp blue skies, golden lalang field, colourful flowers and perfectly placed tree logs. It’s rustic and yet so family-friend. Despite it being almost at my doorstep (I live VERY near to it), I only recently explored it and had a Family photo shoot shot there.
I explored Lakeside Garden with Jolene and her family, it was our annual photoshoot to celebrate her twin girls’ birthday and boy oh boy was it a good shoot!
Q1 – What is the best timing for outdoor photo-shoot photography?
Ideally, the best timing is 8AM – 10AM in the morning or 5PM – 7PM in the evening. Do avoid the afternoon sun as the shadows the harsh, overhead light creates are often unflattering and high contrast (not a good look!). Bright noon sun tends to result in squinting eyes or frowning faces, nope! Personally I prefer early morning while everybody is still fresh and awake, young kids are always happier in the morning too!
This was photographed 8:30AM on a weekend, notice how golden the lights are?
Q2 – What to wear for outdoor family photo-shoot?
From a photographer point of view, I strongly suggest white or light pastel colours. Keep it simple and coordinated. Cotton or Linen are best for the summery weather of Singapore. But if you prefer, darker tones work perfectly well of course! Look at how well this lovely twin carry their white tops and matching skirts? Absolutely adorable.
Q3 – What if it rains before or during outdoor photography shoot?
We can either postpone to a later date, or you’re always welcome to convert your outdoor session into a natural light photoshoot in my studio. Colonial shophouse with full, French glass window is the perfect place for cosy family shoots!
Q4 – What props should I prepare for an outdoor shoot?
Travelling light is essential to a stress-free and less-tiring shoot. Prepare the minimal of water, tissue, some snacks and you’re more than good enough! The park has plenty of gorgeous spots such as fallen tree logs, colourful flowers and little hills to engage young children so props are secondary! A small tube of bubbles or some balloons or straw hats are cute!
